Rabbi Henry's 2011 Christmas rant and more

As a Messianic Jew, I have a major problem with icons because of what the Scripture says. This is not a personal bias. I believe that the Word of the Lord is clear in this matter. I also do not believe that the first Messianic believers would have condoned this practice, based on their observance of the Torah. Here are a list of Scriptures and the basic gist of each verse for you to examine. The entire verse needs to be read in context for the full understanding to be had.

Exodus 20
4“You shall not make for yourself an

The Lord's standard for revival not ours

Our world deals with its issues in a very subjective manner. The majority of decisions that are made in this world are made based on how we feel at  moment. There was an old expression that was used in my generation it went something like this, "If it feels good do it".

This expressed the sentiment of an entire generation, "ignore the facts do what you feel". I’m not here to tell you that our feelings are totally invalid in the decision making process. What I am saying, however, is that feelings should not be our sole foundation and methodology in the decision-making process for the important issues in our life, especially when it comes to making decisions of a spiritual nature.

Rabbi Henry's 2011 Halloween Rant

Shalom one and all:

So here I go again starting trouble when there is no need to. I always stick my nose into areas that it doesn’t belong, or do I. Well, you all know what time of the year it is? Yes, it is that sinfully wicked holiday of Halloween, and I just refuse to let sleeping dogs lie. You are more than welcome to hit the delete button if you need to, but for those of you who are heartier of spirit, stick with me.

I have decided not to take the traditional approach to the matter by giving all the historical reasons why believers should not celebrate this day. …

Promises to Israel

I am writing to you today to keep you in remembrance of our call to Israel. Please understand this is a word of encouragement not rebuke. Yet, we need to be constantly reminded of these things in a world that is so upside-down that sometimes we ourselves can get confused. In light of what is happening in NY right now at the UN, I present to you these Scriptures and thoughts so that we might not forget.

Psalms 137
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, may my right hand forget her skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem Above my chief joy.

Koranic Islamic Faith vs Biblical Messianic Faith

The philosophy of true Biblical Messianic faith vs The Philosophy of true Koranic Islam.

Messianic faith teaches its followers to live for God with all of their heart soul mind and strength and love their neighbor as their own selves, Luke 10:27. We are called to impart this faith unto others without encroaching on their free will (Josh 24:15). To seek those who are lost (Mt 18:11) that they might have life eternal with God the lover of their soul. (John 3:15-16)

Koranic faith teaches its followers to live in submission to Allah to the point of embracing death as the highest goal on this earth. …

More on Egypt's Revolt

Well, there certainly has been no shortage of world shattering events in the past few weeks. My last post about Egypt was met with some skepticism. There were some statements made on behalf of the Egyptian people. Although I do believe that the writers of those comments intended well, it does not surprise me that their comments reflect a lack of understanding of the Middle East, and the religion of Islam itself. So, I thought I would try to clarify some things in this post.

First of all, polls indicate that the majority of those who were involved in this revolt still favor an Islamic style Sharia state; for instance according to a Pew Poll:

Day of Remembrance

On the date of May 1st 2011, Sha'ar Hashamayim will be hosting a march for Yom HaShoa (Day of Holocaust Remembrance). During this event we would meet in the center of Sharon, in a place that would be convenient for all. We will announce that place soon. Then we will march to the gazebo on the lake. We will wear t-shirts and carry banners en route. This march is not for the purpose of protesting. We are marching to attest. Once at the gazebo there will be a time where we would honor Holocaust survivors and their families. …

Egypt's Revolt

I am sure most of you are well aware of the events that have transpired in Egypt over the last week. There are however some things you will not be told in the news about this event and I would like to take this time to not only make you aware but to challenge you as well. There are statements from every angle with many different opinions from many different sources. Everyone wants to predict and prognosticate the significance of these events and future outcome. The one thing I have not heard though is how we got to this place. …

Forsake Not The Assembly

The hardest thing I have ever had to accomplish in the ministry is the task of assembling a Biblical community. The competition is enormous. The act of taking individuals and molding them into a healthy functioning Biblically based community is truly one of the greatest challenges that a spiritual leader today. Many rely on programs or they consult firms to help them put together the right strategy that will guarantee them the growth they desire. While all that may be well and good in a corporate setting, the family of God functions for an entirely different reason. …

What Is In A Word

Everyone knows how important and powerful words can be. Even wasted and careless words show something about our character. In the spoken and written word we have the power of life and death. We have seen this throughout History, especially during war. The Scripture truly shows us the importance of a word and articulates it in many different ways.

Pro 25:11 Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances. NASB

In other words, a word spoken well is precious and sweet and properly framed in right context. …

Top 10 Reasons Why I Don't Celebrate Christmas

Shalom one and all. I decided to get a head start on my Christmas ramblings this year to give you a little while to contemplate. It also gives those who want to oppose me a little more time to think of a Biblical rebuttal. I have also decided to keep it shorter this year for your sake. After all, you do have a lot of holiday shopping to do. You can review my other Christmas blogs on the website if you need to. Please if you want to make a statement do it on the website blog post so that my personal email will not get slammed. …

Video: Feeding the Homeless on Thanksgiving

What an amazing time of ministry we had on Thanksgiving in
the streets of Brockton MA. We fed those who were hungry in body and
spirit. I am so proud of my congregation. When it comes to ministry they
really pull it off together as a well oiled team.

We posted a slide show presentation in our media section. You can check it out here.

What Are We Worth?

What are we worth? Understanding the very delicate nature of our self-esteem and self worth is paramount in our lives if we want to live in good spiritual health. It is an issue that everyone will have to wrestle with at some time in his or her life. No one is exempt from this battle.  People have a need to be recognized and recognize others. We all have very special and significant distinctions in our life that makes us individuals. We want and need to be recognized for those features and distinctions. …

Makeing It Up As You Go Along?

If you can’t get what you want from the Bible then just make it up as you go along and put God’s name on it. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness is not a Biblical guarantee.
The only thing that the scriptures guarantee is persecution.

2Tim 3:12-13
12Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
13But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

Bibles And Bagels Has Expanded

Bibles and Bagels has been such a wonderful time at Sha'ar. So starting in November and until further notice we will be meeting on the first and third Saturday of the month at 11:00 am for an extended time of fellowship and study. It will still be called Bibles and bagels. Nothing has been changed, not even the name to protect the guilty. That's right, you bring the Bibles & bagels, (don't forget the cream cheese) and we will have an extended time to study the word and enjoy some fellowship and nosh together on the Shabbat. …

Christianity or Christian Insanity?

Keeping in the spirit of, 1st John 1:4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world, I have decided to post these 3 videos. They were produced for the purpose of revealing a deception that has gripped the church all over the world, in the supposed new revival movements. There is a spirit of confusion that has intermingled with new age philosophy that has infiltrated the body of believers. This happens so easily now as a result of the Gospel being pulled out of it's Biblical Jewish context. …

Pastor Jobst Bittner and Messianic Musician Ted Pierce to Visit Stoughton, MA!

On the night of November 13th 7:00 pm at our congregation, we will be hosting Pastor Jobst BittnerTed Pierce, an internationally acclaimed musician, Psalmist and minister will be joining him also. He might even sing a song or two.

Pastor Bitner of TOS Ministries Intl. in Tubingen, Germany has been active in bringing churches all over the world to host marches on (Yom Ha Shoah) Holocaust Memorial Day. (Saturday, April 30, 2011.) Pastor Bitner pastors a church where the majority of members are children and grandchildren of Nazis

To Vote Or Not To Vote

I sit here in my office with a heavy heart. With great angst and anticipation of what is going to happen tomorrow in the voting booths. I will have to admit I am not a fan of politics. I find it rather distasteful. No matter who you vote for it always seems like we still loose. That might be because of the nature of the beast. Even the very word (poly ticks) smacks of abuse and exploitation. You could almost define it as multiple bloodsuckers, pun intended.

I jest but truthfully, I really do grieve in my heart. …

The Pagan Roots of Halloween Run Deep

The pagan roots of Halloween are well documented. The holiday is rooted in the Celtic festival of Samhain, which came at summer's end. "Paired with the feast of Beltane, which celebrated the life-generating powers of the sun, Samhain beckoned to winter and the dark nights ahead." the reality of the celebration as an occult festival focused on the changing of seasons undoubtedly involved practices pointing to winter as a season of death.

"More than a thousand years ago “Christians” confronted pagan rites by appeasing the lord of death and evil spirits. …

Visions of Success

What motivates a man to fulfill his obligations whatever the cost and to drive himself past all manner of comfort zones? What gives people the courage to persevere in the midst of persecution, adversity, and trials? Why are some more able to see results than others? The answer is vision.

Vision is the reason for man’s success; clear and concise and focused vision. To be able to see the beginning and the end of a matter is one of the most important aspects of success. Even if the plan has to be amended to accommodate the vision -that’s perfectly acceptable.

America The Christian Nation (Continued)

As I watch the political feeding frenzy taking place in our country just a short time before the midterm elections, I can’t help but put my two cents into the dialogue. I don’t write to address political issues but spiritual ones. It never fails that during an election season that the air is filled with a patriotic fervor that is almost out of control. This fervor and patriotism manifests itself in a number of different ways. One issue that has my attention is that so many people jump on the band wagon of bringing this country back to its “Christian roots.” …

What Muslims REALLY Think Of Us

This is a must see!

Just Another Day Just Another Rosh Hashanna

Lev 23:23 Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
Lev 23:24 "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets,a holy convocation.
Lev 23:25 'You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD.'"
Lev 23:26 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
Lev 23:27 "On exactly the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement; it shall be a holy convocation for you, and you shall humble your souls and present an offering by fire to the LORD.

False Prophets Still Abound

Last Saturday night some folks from my congregation and myself went to a meeting that promoted itself as a healing / prophetic gathering. It was lead by a man whose name is Kevin Dedmon. The event took place at New Dimension Church in Providence RI. The reason we went is because one of our members was afflicted by a stroke and they wanted to go in hopes that God would heal them. We went to support our sister. I will say that I am very skeptical of such meetings as most of them turn out to be run by charlatans and scam artists. …

Who Is a Keeper Of The Law?

The scriptures in Jer 31 say that the law has been put in our hearts. The law has not been abolished it has been put in its proper place, our heart (Mt 5:17), where it was supposed to be all along.

Jer 31.
“Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,

32.
“not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them," declares the LORD.

I Am Offended

The first thing I would like to say in this small but passionate article is that I am offended. The entire Muslim world is up in arms over the recent events that took place off the Israeli coastline near Gaza and I am offended with the way the entire event has transpired.  I am offended that the UN and its member states call for the discipline of Israel but they wont do the same to Iran, Cuba, or Venezuela. All of the Muslim terrorist groups who call for the destruction of Israel are allowed to say anything they please and no one speaks out against them for fear of offending Islam. …

Is America a Christian Nation?

2Ti 3:12  Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Messiah Yeshua will be persecuted.

2Ti 3:13  But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

2Ti 3:14  You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,

2Ti 3:15  and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Messiah Yeshua.

2Ti 3:16  All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

Obamas Summit

As I watch our president’s attempt to have a world nuclear summit this week I am reminded of the scripture in Eze 38:16

"And you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I am sanctified through you before their eyes, O Gog."

Nations from all over the world gathered to discuss the status of the nuclear arms race that has the world in a panic. That is many nations except for Israel. …

Final Installment of Easter vs Passover

shalom one and all:

I do pray you had a glorious Passover and resurrection celebration, not to be confused with the pagan holiday of Easter.

Based upon the incredible response I received from my
last letter I have decided to finish this off with another and
make it a trilogy. I was rather amazed with the difference in
response this time as all of the letters I received were very
positive. I am unable to get back to all of you at this time
because of the shear numbers that wrote. But let me thank
you for taking your time to consider the importance of the

Easter Vs Passover the Second Edition

My last note about a week ago seems to have stirred up quite a hornets’ nest of controversy. As I suspected, I received a number of notes requesting me to remove them from my list. Any one who has asked to be taken off the list, please be patient as I search for your email and remove it. If I don't get to yours right away just email me again until I find your email. Other notes were sent to me as a rebuke for my “harsh approach”. I have been reproved for condemning the church and warned that I must repent of my behavior. …

Easter Ramblings 2010

And now for another episode of Rabbi’s Ramblings.

This episode features the topic of Passover. Before we start, I would like to preface this with just one statement: If you can give me one Biblical reason I should celebrate Easter, I will give you at least 10 why you should celebrate Passover.

The Topic can be dealt with in short if I do it in the form of a comparative graph. So here goes.

Easter:

1.    Invented by Constantine in 325 AD as a substitute for Passover at the council of
